From the outset, the success of the Paris Saint-Germain Campus project was intrinsically linked to the Club’s dialogue with the local authorities and inhabitants. Constructive discussion was undertaken with the local authorities as soon as the site was chosen. In 2017, a first consultation phase led to many discussions with the local community. This dialogue helped to refine the project, forge strong partnerships and create synergies to benefit the local area and its inhabitants. Now in the building phase, the Club wanted to keep this dialogue going in order to prevent and limit any negative impact the building work might have on the local community.
AN ONGOING CONSULTATION PROCESS
The dialogue is ongoing with the local inhabitants and local authorities. Created in 2019, the Neighbourhood Committee includes twenty local inhabitants who regularly meet up to monitor the project and the building work. In terms of partners, representatives from the Campus, Poissy city council, the Grand Paris Seine & Oise urban community, and the Yvelines departmental council meet up periodically to discuss how the project and building work are progressing.
A PARTNERSHIP-BASED APPROACH
By choosing to build its new Campus in Poissy, in the Yvelines, Paris Saint-Germain hopes to help drive the region forward and maximise the Campus’ positive impact on the area by creating jobs, rallying the community and supporting local initiatives. In concrete terms, partnerships will be formed to facilitate local recruitment. A network of local craftsmen and producers will be used to oversee the vegetable garden, plant trees, and supply the Campus with fresh produce, for example. The Club is willing to consider any other initiatives that might tie in with the project.
SPECIFIC PROJECTS
The construction of the Paris Saint-Germain Campus on the site in Poissy was an opportunity to improve the roads for local inhabitants and users.
- The RD30 road near the Campus was reconfigured. It includes a footpath/cycle path, which makes it easier for everyone to get around. At the end of Rue de Feucherolles, a roundabout has been created to make it safer for those going to and from Aigremont. Carried out by the Yvelines department.
- Since December 2020, a new road has linked the village of La Bidonnière to the RD113 road in Poissy. Called Rue Guy Crescent, in memory of the co-founder of Paris Saint-Germain in 1970 and Club President in 1971, this road was financed by an urban partnership project, signed in 2018 between the Club and the local authorities. This two-way road features two mini roundabouts to slow down traffic. It is edged with wide pavements and a two-way cycle path. It boasts modern street furniture and is planted with trees representative of the local vegetation. Carried out by the Grand Paris Seine & Oise urban community.
- A 4km cycle loop will make it easier for people to get around day to day. Linked up with the existing or new cycle paths, it will make it safer to cycle around the area. Carried out by Poissy city council, GPS&O urban community, Yvelines department and Paris Saint-Germain.
LOCAL INVOLVEMENT
Paris Saint-Germain wanted to have a positive impact on the local area by creating jobs and calling upon local artisans and producers to manage the vegetable gardens and orchards, plant trees and supply the centre with fresh produce.
